December 3, 2021 – December 3, 2021

School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana (SEB LU), is proud to host the 10th International Economic and Business Review (EBR) Annual Conference & SEBLU Doctoral Conference 2021.

Time: December 3, 2021

Venue: live and virtual (Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business and a virtual format via zoom)

Fee: There is no conference fee, participation in the conference is free of charge.

For the past few decades, the EBR Journal has published high-quality theoretical, empirical, applied or policy-oriented research papers from various fields of economics and business. Our aim is to continue promoting high quality research in the areas covered by the journal, as well as to offer annual conferences that serve as a regional forum for academic discussion of research findings.

The global socio-economic situation has been very dynamic and tense in recent years. While some economies are still recovering from the 2008 crisis, the COVID-19 crisis has again caused significant stress and high uncertainty for businesses and policy makers. After a year and a half of COVID-19 and measures to prevent its spread and support the economy, policymakers and businesses have found a range of solutions to do business in the "new normal". Moreover, the challenges faced by economies and businesses in the last decade are still very much present today, including those related to digitalization, Industry 4.0, increased competitiveness demands, an aging society, and others. At the same time, countries are facing the looming consequences of global warming, which poses a relevant threat to the sustainability of prosperity. While policy makers and businesses have introduced a number of reforms and best practices focused on smart and sustainable growth, the impact is yet to be seen. On a broader level, countries and businesses have also grappled with the socio-economic and political challenges of globalization, questions about the new model of capitalism or the new model of society, the dangers of radicalization, and the unstable political situation around the world with several looming political and humanitarian crises, most recently in Afghanistan. These are affecting our economies, businesses, and individuals.

We cordially invite academics, researchers as well as postgraduate students, irrespective of their institutional or geographical affiliation, to submit theoretical, empirical, applied, or policy-oriented research papers addressing the challenges of societies, corporations, and individuals related to the key conference topics, as well as other relevant economic and business topics.

Conference format. The conference will be held over one day and will be divided into parallel sessions by subject area. Each session will consist of at least  3 papers, with the presentation, the discussant’s remarks, and an open discussion.

Towards a Better Future: The Triple Challenge of Profit, People and Planet

Faculty of Economics Ljubljana June 1st, 2018

Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, is proud to host the 7th International Economic and Business Review (EBR) Annual Conference & FELU Doctoral Conference 2018, this year, with the title: "Towards a better future: the triple challenge of profit, people and planet".

For the past decades, the EBR has been publishing high quality theoretical, empirical, applied or policy-oriented research papers from various fields of economics and business. It is our aim to continue promoting quality research in the fields covered by the journal as well as to provide yearly conferences, serving as a regional forum for academic discussion of research results. This year the conference will address the problem of the triple bottom line. The triple bottom line (profit, people, planet) summarizes the challenges of our quest for development within the boundaries set by the environment and the desire for an inclusive future. The recent economic crisis diverted the focus of economics and businesses from the problems of sustainable development to the crisis itself. The growing tensions, primarily those pertinent to social developments (inequality, migrations, political tensions, etc.), point to the need to again focus on the question of how to pursue growth, but at the same time acknowledge the need be sustainable. The conference will discuss topics related to sustainable development, both from the perspective of challenges related to gro

wth and development, policy-makers, businesses and society. We cordially invite academics, researchers as well as PhD students, irrespective of their institutional or geographical affiliation, to submit theoretical, empirical, applied, or policy-oriented research papers dealing with different economics and business topics to our conference. We specifically welcome papers that relate to the main conference topic, which is devoted to the challenges of sustainable development. (All papers discussing other relevant economic and business issues will be considered as well.)

Conference format. The Conference will span over one day. The program will include plenary session led by a prominent guest speaker and devoted to the main issues of the 7th Annual Conference the triple challenge of profit, people and planet', and will continue with presentations of selected papers divided into parallel sessions by the field of specialization. Each session will consist of a minimum of 3 papers, with presentation, discussant’s remarks, and open discussion.

EBR ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2017 - The Era of Digital Economy: Challenges for Business and Economics

Faculty of Economics Ljubljana

Ljubljana

July 5, 2017 – July 5, 2017

Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, is proud to host the 6th International Economic and Business Review (EBR)  Annual Conference, this year, with the title: “The era of digital economy: Challenges for business and economics”.

We specifically welcome papers that relate to the main conference topic, which is devoted to the challenges of the new digital economy. (All papers discussing other relevant economic and business issues will be considered as well.)

The rise of the digital era has a profound impact on all aspects of our life, economic, social as well as other. For researchers, the digital era opened a number of new fields, increased data availability, facilitated cooperation, led to a number of technological developments that improve the quality and increase the ease of the research and had a number of other positive impacts. But digital era also changed the dynamics of how systems evolve, interact and consequently opened a number of challenges. Within the fields of economics and business, the emergence of the new digital era is linked to the establishment of the new economy, technology-based growth and the continuous search for the optimal business model. Such business models should be adaptable to the new quickly evolving and changing circumstances in the markets, as well as allow for stability and stimulate knowledge creation, transfer and innovation. At the same time, challenges related to fair labour in the digitized economy and ethical issues related to the use and application of big data, collaborative platforms and online participation should not be ignored. For governments, the digital era increases the ability to support the economy with evaluation-based tools and measures underlying their decisions on policy-making, but this requires data availability and knowledge to process them. We invite you to share your results and considerations with us and thereby contribute to a high-level academic debate.

Conference format: The Conference will span over one day. The program will include plenary session led by a prominent guest speaker and devoted to the main issues of the 6th Annual Conference ‘digital economy and challenges for business and economics’, and will continue with presentations of selected papers divided into parallel sessions by the field of specialization. EBR Conference 2016 - ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS RESEARCH IN THE AGE OF DATA

Faculty of Economics

Kardeljeva ploščad 17, Ljubljana

Ljubljana, SI

September 9, 2016 – September 9, 2016

Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana, is proud to host the 5th Annual Conference of the Economic & Business Review (EBR). For the past decades, the EBR has published high quality theoretical, empirical, applied or policy-oriented research papers on various fields in economics and business. It is our aim to promote research in the fields covered by the journal and to provide a regional forum for academic discussion of research results.

We cordially invite researchers, irrespective of their institutional or geographical affiliation, to submit theoretical, empirical, applied, or policy-oriented research papers on any field in economics and business to our conference. We specifically welcome papers that relate to the main conference topic, which is devoted to the question on research in the age of data.

For researchers, data are essential. Recently, “big data” has become a buzz word. But for high quality research the question about data goes well beyond the “data” itself. Both bigger and smaller datasets allow an in-depth understanding of the behavior of individuals and enterprises (e.g. qualitative, ethnographic or other research). Data is increasingly obtained also from simulated behaviors (experiments). For quality research, not only the size and nature of data is important, but primarily also the quality of data, methodology used in testing a model or mining, and primarily also the interpretation and use of the results for a number of purposes. We invite you to share your results and considerations with us and thereby contribute to a quality academic debate.

The Conference will span over one day. The program will include plenary session led by guest speaker prof. Costas Katsikeas (Leeds University Business School, UK) and devoted to the main issues of the 5th Annual Conference Economic and Business Research in the Age of Data and will continue with presentations of selected papers divided into parallel sessions by the field of specialization. Each session will consist of minimum 3 papers, with presentation, discussant remarks, and open discussion.

Every year special invitation goes to graduate students. For 2016 Conference special Doctoral Session is issued and FELU and other PhD students are invited to submit papers in PhD track.

Scientific Committee: Matej Černe, Tanja Dmitrović, Miro Gradišar, Darja Peljhan, Tjaša Redek, Miroslav Verbič, Katja Zajc Kejžar.
